Essential oils are natures' gift to us but as it is a billion $ business there are people who want to earn as much as possible not caring who gets hurt in the process. Be aware that as the market is unregulated a company only has to put in 5% of the oil to call it pure. That means 95% of substitutes and additives are included which could negate any health benefits of the oils.
The way oils are extraction is a fine art and knowing when to harvest and extract the oil takes years to master. The longer the plant material is in the extraction process the potency of the oils reduce. Make sure you research who you are buying oils from to ensure potency.
Bare in mind that a lot of the growers and harvesters are in third world countries and are poor thus giving them very little power over big essential oil companies. Some companies where taking the stock from these farmers and not paying them for months and months after. This is corruption and I will not support it therefore I am very careful who I buy from.
You pay for what you get in this market so if you pick up a pack containing 6 oils and one is rose essential oil costing £15.99 for the pack you know the oils are not pure. Rose oil 5ml will cost in the hundreds of pounds.
